A dental emergency doesn't wait. Neither do we.

Tooth pain has a way of taking over everything. You can't eat, can't sleep, can't focus on anything else. And when something cracks, breaks, or gets knocked loose, the panic kicks in fast.

Most people try to push through it for a day or two, hoping it'll calm down. It usually doesn't. What starts as a dull ache can turn into an infection, and a small chip can turn into a lost tooth. The sooner you're seen, the simpler the fix.

Hi, I'm Dr. Alena Kvashenka, owner of Lux Dental and Spa here in Palm Harbor. We keep room in our schedule every day for emergency patients because that's exactly when people need us most.

Pick up the phone. We'll get you in fast, figure out what's going on, and lay out the options before doing anything. Most people walk out the same day feeling like a different person.

Dental emergencies we treat, often the same day

  • Severe, throbbing toothache: Pain that won't quit, especially at night. Usually a sign of an infection or inflamed nerve that needs attention now, not next week.

  • Knocked-out tooth: Time matters. Keep the tooth moist in milk or saliva and call us right away. Reimplantation works best within the first hour.

  • Broken or chipped tooth: From a fall, sports, or biting down on something hard. We can smooth, bond, or crown it the same day in most cases.

  • Lost filling or crown: The exposed tooth is more vulnerable now. Come in soon so we can re-cement or replace it before it cracks or decays further.

  • Swollen jaw or face: Often a sign of a dental abscess. This needs to be treated quickly to keep the infection from spreading.

  • Cracked or fractured tooth: A crack can run deep into the tooth even when it doesn't look bad. Early treatment often saves the tooth.

  • Bleeding that won't stop: After a knock to the mouth or following an extraction. Apply gentle pressure with gauze and call us right away.

  • Pain after a recent procedure: If something doesn't feel right after a filling, extraction, or root canal, let us know. A quick check usually resolves it fast.

  • Object stuck between teeth: Don't dig at it with sharp objects. We can remove it safely without damaging the gum or enamel.

  • Sudden, sharp sensitivity: Especially to hot or cold that lingers afterward. This often points to a cracked tooth or exposed nerve that needs to be looked at.

What to do right now

First-aid steps while you're on the way to us

A few quick steps can make a real difference before you arrive. Call us as soon as you've stabilized the situation and we'll be ready when you walk in.

Knocked-out tooth

Pick it up by the crown, never the root. Rinse gently with milk or saliva if it's dirty. If you can, slip it back into the socket. Otherwise, store it in milk or your cheek. Call us immediately, every minute counts.

Severe toothache

Rinse your mouth with warm salt water. Floss gently to remove anything caught between teeth. Take ibuprofen or acetaminophen per the label. Use a cold compress on the cheek for swelling. Then call us to get in today.

Broken or chipped tooth

Save any pieces if you can. Rinse your mouth and the fragments with warm water. Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. Cover any sharp edges with sugar-free gum or dental wax until we see you.

Lost filling or crown

Keep the area clean and chew on the other side. If you have the crown, you can try temporary dental cement from a pharmacy to reseat it. Never use super glue. Book a visit within a day or two.

Swelling or abscess

Rinse with warm salt water several times a day. Use a cold compress on the cheek to ease swelling. Do not apply heat or aspirin directly to the gum. Call us today, infections can spread quickly.

Bleeding from the mouth

Apply firm, steady pressure with clean gauze or a wet tea bag for 15 to 20 minutes. Sit upright to slow the flow. If bleeding doesn't stop, call us or head to the emergency room.

I've struggled with dental problems for a long time, and they've been incredibly supportive, guiding me through every step. Jackie was fantastic with the financial and insurance details, Jessie provided excellent support and encouragement, and Dr. Kvashenka really listened to my concerns and went above and beyond during my procedure. I can only say wonderful things about this practice and all the lovely ladies who work there. I haven't met everyone yet, but I'm looking forward to it in the coming years.

The Lux Dental Spa in Palm Harbor was the greatest discovery I have made as I search for new doctors and care givers in this area! Not only is this office run efficiently, but service to client is their top concern. I have had two appointments and many over the phone consults to be certain that I know what is going on during my treatment and for making sure that payment for services is just as pain free as the service. I had an implant surgery performed yesterday and had no discomfort with only novacaine. The setting was so calm and peaceful that I am not sure, but I believe I was snoring.

Listen… I don't usually write reviews, but I gotta give credit where credit is due. This place is DIFFERENT. Had implants and a bone graft done and I swear I didn't feel a damn thing. Not exaggerating either… I was so comfortable I actually knocked out. Who falls asleep during dental work?? That alone tells you how smooth they are. The office? Immaculate. Super clean, super professional, everything just feels top tier. If you're scared of the dentist, stop playing and go here. You'll understand real quick. Highly recommend.

This place was the best place I've ever been to. And it was a dentist! Everyone in there was so kind and smiling and helped me unbelievably. I had 2 teeth extracted, and under an hour and never felt any pain. I give them out of 10 a 15. And Jesse and Jackie were amazing in all their help! Wonderful place to bring your family.

02

Quick exam and clear plan

When you arrive, we'll take a focused look with X-rays if needed, figure out exactly what's wrong, and walk you through the options. No surprises, no pressure.

Most emergencies can be treated the same visit, whether that's a filling, root canal, extraction, or temporary crown. You walk out of pain and back to your day.

Why patients choose us in an emergency

When something goes wrong with your teeth, you don't want to roll the dice on a stranger. You want a calm, experienced team that's done this thousands of times and treats you like a person, not a number.

Whether it's a screaming toothache or a tooth that just broke off, the goal is simple: get you comfortable today. Most patients leave the visit feeling like a completely different person.

Honest, no-pressure options

We tell you what's actually wrong, what your options are, and what each one costs before doing anything. You make the call, and we'll respect whatever fits your situation.

Gentle care for nervous patients

If the dentist already makes you anxious, an emergency makes it worse. Sedation, numbing that actually works, and a calm, patient team make a real difference in how the visit feels.

Common questions about emergency dental care in Palm Harbor

Anything that involves real pain, bleeding, swelling, or a broken or knocked-out tooth should be treated as a dental emergency. That includes severe toothaches, abscesses, cracked or chipped teeth, lost fillings or crowns, and trauma from a fall or sports injury. If you're not sure whether what you're dealing with is urgent, give us a call. We'll help you decide whether you need to come in today or whether it can safely wait until tomorrow. When in doubt, it's almost always better to be seen sooner. A small issue today can quickly become a much bigger, more expensive one in a few days.
